| Robert Kirkwood is Lecturer in Religious and Moral Education at the University of Edinburgh. He is one of the best known religious educators in the UK. With the cartoonist McLachlan, he has written a series of
ground-breaking textbooks for secondary students. Books such as Looking for God, Looking for Happiness, If I were God I’d say sorry (published by Pearson Education and Hodder and Stoughton) are written for mixed-ability classes and show how it is possible to introduce students to Philosophy of Religion and Ethics. He has a wealth of experience as a teacher, teacher trainer and RE adviser and has spent much of his teaching career working in inner-city schools in socially deprived areas. He regularly speaks at conferences in the UK and further afield. Dylan Bartlett is Head of Philosophy and Religious Studies at The Royal High School, Edinburgh, where he has taught for eleven years. He also serves as a visiting lecturer and workshop leader on the Bachelor of Education degree course at the University of Edinburgh. He is an examiner for the Scottish Qualifications Authority and has delivered in-service courses for the city of Edinburgh council education department. He recently undertook a Farmington Fellowship based at Harris Manchester College, Oxford, writing a short course for Year 10 students on the nature of happiness. Dr Jeremy Hall is Head of Religious Education at Newington College, Sydney. He was until recently Head of Philosophy at Hutchesons’ Grammar School, Glasgow and has been much involved in the development of Philosophy as a subject in Scottish schools. He was an examiner for the Scottish Qualifications Authority and a member of the advisory group which produced the first Scottish Higher in Philosophy. He is co-editor of Dialogue, a journal of religion and philosophy, and a member of the editorial board of Dialogue Australasia which promotes the ‘Five Strand’ approach to Religious and Values Education. He regularly leads in-service courses for teachers, has contributed to continuing education programs at Glasgow and Strathclyde universities and been a tutor in Philosophy of Religion for the National Theological Centre, Canberra. |
